Justin Thompson earns fifth Down East Limousine male athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 173 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had six Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominations. It was a very close vote, with Justin Thompson from Schenck high school edging out James Mersereau from Machias high school.  It is the fifth Down East Limousine athlete of the week honor for Thompson, including his third in the past month. Thompson joins Max McHugh (Central), Karli Theberge (Hermon), Isaiah Bess (Penquis),  Parise Rossginol (Van Buren), Kenzie Worcester (Washburn), Gage Feeney (Washington Academy) as student/athletes that have been named athlete of the week at least five times.

Other nominations this week include Tyler Pye and Austin Mason from Bucksport high school, Chad Bartlett from Old Town high school, and Grant Poulin from Central high school.

Down East Limousine Male athlete of the week

Justin Thompson- Schenck- basketball- recorded a triple double- 24 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists in 84-42 win over Stearns. Had 22 points 20 rebounds and 7 assists in 74-29 win over PVHS. Recorded 20 points 7 rebounds 5 assists 5 steals and 5 blocks in 54-39 win over PCHS.  Other student/athletes from Schenck high school to earn athlete of the week honors include Ashley Leavitt, Ryan Jurgiewich, Chantel Lane, and Justin’s older sister Morgan Thompson.

Runner up

James Mersereau – Machias- basketball- recorded 30 points, 12 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists in 87-56 win over Narraguagus. Recorded 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 steals in 80-47 win over Deer Isle-Stonington.

Other nominations

Tyler Pye- Bucksport- basketball- scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds in 67-39 win over John Bapst. Recorded 21 points and 13 rebounds in 46-44 win over Searsport.

Austin Mason- Bucksport – basketball- scored 12 points, including 3 three pointers and dished out five assists in 40-35 win over Dexter.

Grant Poulin- Central- basketball- scored 17 points, including 3 three pointers in 57-41 win over PCHS.

Chad Bartlett- Old Town- basketball – scored 21 points in 65-53 win over Orono.
